Personality:

 

Ever the tinkerer, Tails still has that love of mechanics and science.  He is also a quick thinker in battle and has grown to be a natural leader.  As a leader, he is kind, loyal and encouraging as well as a great mentor to those around him.  He has seemed to have picked up on some of Sonic’s traits as well from being raised by the Blue Blur and has adapted them into his own, which we see quite a bit with his interactions with Knuckles.  However, none of that means that he is a push over.  When it comes right down to it, this twin-tailed hero will not tolerate attacks on the innocent as well as members of his team and will act with force if need be if he doesn’t think circles around them first. 

 

History:

Tails has come a long way from the young fox he was so many years ago. 

 

During his early teen years, Tails became more active in training with Sonic, the Blue Blur helping the twin-tailed fox develop fast flying speed to be able to keep up with the hedgehog.  However, he still kept his technical prowess, still working on his projects until late at night.

At around 14 years old, he lost his brother in the Chaos Reactor explosion.  This was a devastating blow for the twin-tailed kitsune.  With the death of Sonic, Tails recoiled and locked himself in his workshop.  Three months after the explosion at the Chaos Reactor (later by Mobians referred as “Ground Zero”), the radiation was spreading slowly, but was now heading toward the Mystic Ruins, where Tails’ workshop and home resided.  Despite hearing the warnings about it, he refused to leave, seeing no point in fighting anymore in his deep depression.  It wasn’t until Shadow came at Amy’s request and talked him out of it that Tails finally decided to evacuate, leaving his home behind for what seemed to be forever.  It was also revealed by Shadow that the remaining Freedom Fighters voted and thought that Tails should be the new leader of the now small team.  When Tails asked him why Shadow didn’t take the job himself, he simply told him that he was a fighter, not a babysitter. 

 

Even after he accepted being the leader of the Mobian Freedom Fighters, Tails didn’t regard himself as a leader for a long time.  It wasn’t too long ago for the teenage fox, before the incident at the Chaos Reactor, that he had to lead the same group when Sonic had disappeared.  But back then, there was hope that his brother would come back.  Here…there was no sign of that this time.  Working together with Team Dark, the Mobian Freedom Fighters managed to help many Mobians relocate to safer locations away from radioactive hotspots that began to spread over Mobius.  As five years passed and with the support of his team, Tails became more comfortable in his role as leader.  But nothing would prepare the fox for what was to come in that year. 

 

On a mission to help their allies Team Dark, Knuckles and Tails took the X Tornado to come to their aid, only to be attacked by a strange robot, proven later to be an Exus Elite named Envy.  The robot tore the plane’s wing off in mid-flight, causing it to go into a death roll and break apart when it crashed into the ground.  Being on the outside of the plane, Knuckles made it out safely, but Tails had been trapped in the cockpit, and purposely swerved the plane to save Knuckles.  When Knuckles found Tails in the wreckage, he was severely injured, and even though he was healed with a Chaos Emerald, didn’t completely recover from that injury.

 

Despite being told by other doctors that he wouldn’t be able get around like he used to or fly again, Tails refused to believe it and worked on creating a way for him to be able to continue helping the Freedom Fighters as well as doing what he loved, flying. 

What Tails had come up with was amazing.  It was a vest with neuro-technology that helped compensate for his damaged spinal cord, sending messages to allow movement with little interference from his injuries.  However, there was a catch.  He couldn’t use the vest for very long and he no longer could fly at the speed of light like he was able to do before without severely hurting himself.  So he had to use it sparingly and take breaks in between.  Knuckles and Cream took over running most of the missions, while Tails invented Seth (the Mobian Freedom Fighter’s base’s security system) to help him while he worked on important projects, while rebuilding what was left of his plane in between, now the X Tornado 2.

 

A few years later, Nikki found her way to the Mobian Freedom Fighter’s base and Tails accepted her into the group, knowing not only that they needed more members, but also knowing that Nikki was Sonic’s daughter. 

 

Tails becomes like a father figure to Nikki throughout the hedgehog’s life and Tails feels as though she is a daughter to him.  As the years go on, Nikki became stronger, faster, more independent and Tails was still there for her when she needed him most.  However, something happened that changed everything.  In one mission, Tails was nearly killed by an Exus, and in a desperate attempt to save him, Nikki used a Chaos Emerald to try and heal him.  Risking her own life in the process, Nikki did succeed…even more than the two had ever expected.  Not only did it heal the injuries from the Exus’ attack, but it healed his injured back completely as well.  He still has the scaring, but the pain and the effects of the old injury were completely gone.  It was also that day that Tails became a father and his daughter Trinity Prower was born. 

 

As the group gained new members, Tails and the other first gen Freedom Fighters became their mentors, teaching what they needed in order to survive in this new world and protect those that couldn’t protect themselves.  It wasn’t until Nikki had turned 14 and the discovery of what would become the Genesis base that Tails decided that the team should be divided into sections, but still work together.

 

Though he does look back and reminisce on old memories from time to time, Tails still looks forward as an effective and confident leader of the Freedom Fighters.  If Sonic was around, he would be proud of how far his little brother has come and grown to be one of Mobius’ greatest defenders and inventors.
